ALL CLASSES VIRTUAL: Thursday, March 18th

DUE TO THE THREAT OF SEVERE WEATHER TOMORROW, ALL EXPLORIS CLASSES WILL BE VIRTUAL ON THURSDAY, MARCH 18TH.

Students should follow the normal virtual schedule for Crew, Math, ELA, and Expedition.

World Cultures will have an asynchronous class for ALL 6th-grade students tomorrow (Thursday). Please look for your activity that will be posted tomorrow on Google Classroom.  Christina will have an open Zoom session from 10:45 am – 12 pm for any students who would like to drop in for questions, clarification, or just to say hello. The Zoom Link can be found HERE, but it is the same Zoom link that we used for all of our classes for the last session.  Please email Christina if you have any questions (cfranklin@exploris.org).

  6. Don’t forget to bring a snack, water bottle, and lunch!
  7. Students will also need their computers, chargers, earbuds/headphones, math journal, expedition journal, a jacket or sweater, and writing utensils.

Plan B Information and Updates

  • Plan B Calendar 
    • Hybrid in-person dates for sixth grade
      • March 16-March 18
      • April 26-April 29
      • May 17-May 20
      • Fridays are virtual for everyone
      • Weeks that 6th grade is not in-person is regular virtual schedule for all
  • Carpool
    • Students can be dropped off between 7:45-8:15
    • Students must be picked up between 2:00-2:15
    • Students must arrive through carpool– no walk ups
    • Students will undergo a screening (temperature check, etc.) at drop off
    • Walkers, bikers, bus riders need to email Deborah Brown (deborah@exploris.org) to provide written documentation

  • Sixth Grade Hybrid/Virtual Schedule and Groups
    • An email with room assignments will be sent the afternoon of Monday, March 15th
    •  Students will stay in their assigned room all day (We will try to get outside weather permitting. Make sure your child brings the required poncho because we still go outside rain or shine.)
    • Teachers will rotate classrooms 
    • Students will NOT necessarily be with their crews (4 crews split into 6 rooms)
    • Students will not mix groups, even at recess or lunch
    • Virtual students will follow page 2 of the schedule linked above (Zoom links on page 2)
  • Bring the following to school every day (all items should fit in one backpack): 
    • Contact your Crew teacher if you need help getting any of the supplies!
    • Computer AND Charger 
    • Headphones/Earbuds 
    • Snack (one handheld item)
    • Lunch
      • No lunch deliveries– if your student forgets a lunch, no worries– we have options here on campus and will make sure they get a full lunch and snacks/drinks.  Microwave/refrigerator are not available.
    • Water bottle (water fountains are closed)
    • Jacket/sweater/sweatshirt
    • Poncho
    • Book to read/kindle (time to meet those reading goals set in portfolio)
    • Expedition journal
    • Math Journal
    • Writing utensils
    • Extra back up mask (just in case) 
  • COVID SYMPTOMS IN KIDS
    • Covid in younger kids often presents as “just a cold.”  If your child is stuffy/congested, they must stay home.  (A runny nose and itchy eyes are more likely allergies.) 
  • Exploris COVID Case Reporting Form
    • Schools are required to track data related to Covid-19 and this form will help us! This form should be completed each time you have a confirmed positive, a presumptive positive, or a need to quarantine within a household. Please complete a new form for each person impacted. Names are reported to the health department but are not published in any Exploris forum.

  • If kids are staying 100% virtual, they do not need to fill out this form.
  • One form should be filled out for EACH student who will attend in-person classes
  • Families who do not complete this form electronically will be asked to complete a paper version of it in carpool when they arrive, which will slow down the morning a bit!
  • This is a one-time form; once you fill it out you are done!
  • Families who do not complete the form or who cannot agree to the statements will be asked to have their student remain in remote learning and that student will not be able to attend classes on campus.

Weekly Overview and Announcements

1. Monday, February 15th is an asynchronous day. There are no live classes and students are expected to work independently to complete assignments. Assignments will be posted on Math, ELA, and Expedition Google Classrooms.

2. Portfolio Conferences: Be on the lookout for an email from your Crew teacher about portfolio conferences! Conferences will take place the week of March 1st. 

3. Personal Narrative Publishing Party! You’re invited to attend our ELA classes on the morning of Tuesday, February 23rd. Students will share an excerpt from their personal narrative. Details to come next week!

4. Global Arts Update: Students will begin their next Global Arts rotation next week. Students will have World Cultures with Christina. Their Global Arts schedule will not change. More information can be found in the Weekly Overview.

5. Friday, February 19th is a teacher workday. There is no school for students.

  1. Next week, we will be talking about gravity. There is a virtual station called “Donuts on a String.” Students can view a video of the activity and/or try it at home! Students need at least 2 donuts and string. They’ll want a third donut to eat! 😉

Midweek Reminders/Schedule Updates

  • PTO Meeting this Thursday at 6pm: We would love to see more parents attending our monthly PTO meetings. This year, we are meeting on the first Thursday of every month at 6pm on Zoom. Join Zoom Meeting https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89126406988
  • Thursday Schedule: Our morning schedule will be slightly different on Thursday due to our author visit.
    • Crew: 8:10-8:30
    • ELA/Author Visit for all 6th graders: 8:30-9:15
    • Math for all 6th graders: 9:45-10:30
    • The rest of the day will follow our normal Thursday schedule
