  1. ASTROCAMP OVERNIGHT FIELD EXPERIENCE PAYMENT BALANCE SHEETS: We are sending home an Astrocamp payment balance sheet with each student today. The sheet will be in your child’s homework folder. Please review and contact your Crew teacher with any questions. If you need financial assistance or a scholarship, please reach out to your Crew teacher ASAP!

Exploris Grade 6 Weekly Letter

 

RAFFLE PRIZES NEEDED ASAP: Students have earned raffle tickets for good deeds, craftsmanship, helping, kindness, etc. We would like to have our raffle very soon but are in need of more prizes. An Amazon wishlist has been created if you would like to order any prizes for our students. Click here to view the wishlist! Parents are also welcome to send in gift cards (Chargrill, Cupcake Shoppe, Demo’s, Starbucks, Target, etc.) and we can raffle those off as well. Thank you for your help!

 

HELP!!! WE NEED A FEW MORE DRIVERS!!!: We will have an extended day field trip to Aurora Fossil Museum and the North Carolina Estuarium on December 12th. We will be leaving Exploris Middle School at 7:30am and returning to school at 5:00pm. EXPLORIS IMPROV WORKSHOP with Jeris Donovan Livengood  from Moonlight Stage Company returns for her 5th year leading IMPROV at Exploris.  After many years in LA including coaching with “Modern Family” Jeris brings humor and confidence to our Exploris 6-8th grade.  IMPROV DATES: Dec 3, 10, 17, Jan 7, Jan 14  (3:15-4:30 pm in the Exploris basement) with a performance at Expressions Day (1/18) 1:30pm. Exploris Soccer – Please go to the following link for more information about our winter indoor soccer program.  We look forward to continuing our tradition of including ALL levels of experience on our Exploris Teams!  There is only one practice – just to get the feel of indoor soccer, Tuesday, December 18, 4-5pm. Then just weekly games. Our 11/12 team plays on Sunday afternoons, and our 13/14 team plays Monday nights. Our most advanced or bigger students can play on Mondays.  Likewise our smaller and less experienced students can play Sundays even if they are older. This is not a developmental program. There are NO TRYOUTS! We have elite players and beginners. We promise you all skill levels are welcomed, including zero experience.  Effort and smiles are the only expectation! This program is about fitness, fun, laughter, sweat, play, leadership, compassion, and teamwork! Competition is important, and the students know the teams are carefully designed to tie one another.  WHERE? XL Soccerworld WHEN? Winter II Season 2018 (January 8 -early March)

  1. HEADPHONES/EARBUDS: All students are expected to have their own pair of headphones or earbuds at school each day. This item was on the supply list that was provided in August. If your child needs headphones or earbuds, you may be able to find some deals today as many places are offering Cyber Monday specials.
  2. ELA Homework: Students have ELA assignments (The Lightning Thief focus question response and “The Hero’s Journey” gist statements)  that are due tomorrow. Assignments have been posted on Google Classroom.

Dear Parents,

We are busy wrapping up the first trimester this week! The first trimester has flown by! Please remember that Friday is a teacher workday. Next week is Thanksgiving Break and the following Monday is also a teacher workday. Students return from their Thanksgiving Break on Tuesday, November 27th. Also, please return your conference folders as soon as you can. Thank you!

NASH SQUARE UPDATE: WE ARE CHANGING OUR NASH SQUARE DAYS TO TUESDAYS AND FRIDAYS. This change was made to better accommodate our service learning schedules.

Exploris Grade 6 Weekly Letter

Dear Parents,

This is a lengthy weekly letter, but please read the full letter so you’re aware of what’s happening around Exploris. The homework assignments can be found below and they are also listed on the Weekly Planner your child received today. Please ask to see your child’s Weekly Planner each day to ensure that they’re working on upcoming assignments. As always, contact your Crew teacher if you have any questions or concerns.

FIELD TRIP PAYMENT DUE FRIDAY: $25 field trip payment due this Friday (if you chose the 5 payment option)! Checks can be made payable to The Exploris School.

AMC 8 Math Test

Parents who have registered their students to take the AMC 8 Math Test, please turn in your $5 fee as soon as possible this week to your CREW teacher. The test takes place on on Tuesday November 13th, 2018 from 8:30 – 9:30 am. If you need assistance in paying for this, please contact your CREW teacher. If your child is a middle school student and  is interested in taking this test, please click the link and register.  We have 6 spots left but students must register via this link.

ANALYTICS CLUB: Analytics Club is full of problem solving fun!  We meet every Wednesday from 3:15- 4:30.

Service Project (DONATIONS)

Hello! My name is Lucinda and I am in the 7th-grade service learning group called  Conservationists.  We are in need of WOOD to create owl boxes for Eastern Screech Owls. We need unpainted wood (NOT Presswood or plywood) that is 3/4 -1 inch thick and at least 10 inches wide (3/4 to 1″ X 10″) and as long as possible. Pine would be fine or cedar scraps are good too. If you have wood that you can drop off please contact Helene at helliston@exploris.org   We would need this WOOD as soon as possible since we are trying to make OWL BOXES after our Thanksgiving Break.  Thank you so much!

COMMUNITIES AND SCHOOLS OF WAKE COUNTY: The Exploris School is pleased to announce our New Partnership with Communities and Schools of Wake County. Through this partnership, we have a Success Coach that will be on our campus three days a week. Tara Delgado will be are Success Coach and we are pleased to have her.  Communities and Schools (CIS) of Wake County is dedicated to providing support to schools, student, families and the community. COACHES for SCIENCE OLYMPIAD — volunteers needed

Dear Parents/Grandparents/HighSchool Siblings,

The Exploris Science Olympiad is searching for volunteers who can meet with 2 students at least once per month until Feb 2019 to assist them in studying for their Science Olympiad Events for our February 2019 competition.   The EVENTS listed below are a summary of the actual events where we need COACHES. If you have any SPECIALIZED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE of any of these of these events our students would greatly appreciate your help.

Coaching Commitment involves

  • at least 3 meetings with 2 students on a Monday from 3:15-4:15pm ( or a designated time that suits you and the students)
  • remote help with notes and research
  • help with final prep for Feb 23rd competition
